About the Department:

Department of Mathematics of Dr. S.R.K. Govt college, Yanam, was established with UG Program in B.Sc - MATHEMATICS  in the year 1988. It was inaugurated by Prof. Balakrishnan, the Principal and Sri M.V.R.K. Chainulu was the First Head of the Department. Currently, the department is headed by Thiru. A.V.V.S. Murthy. The department has competent faculties with wide knowledge in pure & applied Mathematics.
Number of seats to Admit in B.Sc Mathematics : 

The in - take of the students was 10 at the beginning. Later the in - take was increased by 16, 20, 25 and at present from 2017 – 18 on wards the in - take of students became 30 due to the demand of the subject.

Position of the Teaching posts in the Department:

The sanctioned posts are 5 in number. One more post should be required because of the heavy workload, 93 hours /week. Department has to teach not only students of B.Sc. Mathematics but also Allied papers to students of B.Sc Chemistry , Physics, Computer science ; B.com and B.A Economics.

Vision:

• Mathematics develops calculating, computing, critical thinking, reasoning, problem solving and formulating the skills for the upcoming mathematicians. The theory and techniques taught in Mathematics courses are especially important in today’s society. The faculty of the department recognizes this and strives to ensure that the student-learner obtain this knowledge.
• Striving to develop the student’s ability to intelligently communicate mathematical results in both written and oral forms because the mathematical background to succeed both academically and professionally.
• We are the only department to ensure the mathematical background to all other disciplines.

• An understanding of mathematics, its applications, and its role in society
• The abilities to reason and to communicate about mathematical ideas
• An appreciation of mathematics as a creative endeavour that involves exploration, problem solving, and the search for patterns and connections. Furthermore, it is the mission of the Department of Mathematics
• To engage in active scholarship and service that supports our teaching, further mathematical understanding,
• To build productive connections with academic and non-academic communities.

Departmental Achievements:

• Two Students from Department of Mathematics had qualified in IIT JAM Entrance Examination.

1. Kona Gopi Srinadh (2016-19) from III B.Sc Mathematics have qualified in IIT JAM-2020 Entrance Examination in Mathematical Statistics (MS) with Rank: 170 and Marks Scored: 42.33.
2. Kasturi Srilakshmi Saladi (2016-19) from III B.Sc Mathematics have qualified in IIT JAM-2019 Entrance Examination in Mathematics (MA) with Rank: 2925 and Marks Scored: 23.33.

• The Department of Mathematics Students are achieved 3 Gold Medals one in the year 1991, the other is in 2000 and Ms. Nakka Chaithenya (2011 – 2014 Batch) achieved Gold Medal declared in 2016.

Activities of Department:

• Every year our department is organizing National mathematics Day.
• We regularly Organized Seminars with Resource Persons from esteemed Universities like Andhra University, JNUK, AKNU, P.R Autonomous, KLU.
• Every Week Final Students are Presenting Seminars in various fields of Mathematics
• Frequently Department also Organizing Educational Tours
• Periodically Quiz Competitions Conducted on Mathematics also Prizes are given to top two groups

   Research Activities:

• Mr. A.V.V.S. Murthy published Four (04) research papers, chapters Published in the Edited books (03) and Attended Fourty (40) Seminars /Conferences/Workshops/Training & FDP Programmes/Webinar.
• Mr. G.G.H.K.S. Prabhakar chapters Published in the Edited books (01) and Attended Thirty (30) Seminars /Conferences/Workshops/Training & FDP Programmes/Webinar.
• Dr. M. Sukumar published Four (04) research papers, (06) Papers presented in Conferences and Attended Nine (09) Seminars /Conferences/Workshops/Training & FDP Programmes/Webinar.
• Mr. M. Santharaju published one (01) research papers, (02) Papers presented in Conferences and Attended Twenty-five (25) Seminars /Conferences/Workshops/Training & FDP Programmes/Webinar.
• Dr. N. Mahesh Babu published Five (05) research papers, (03) Papers presented in Conferences, and Attended Fifteen (15) Seminars /Conferences/Workshops/Training & FDP Programmes/Webinar.
• For newly admitted graduate student in mathematics Department, we recommend them to visit various a professional website so that students can interact with various research Experts 
• The interaction of the students with Experts will create interest in the students for their future research, and to build up their career prospects
